Odds and Ends

God, the off season is boring.

Some random bits:

  • Our team is the unproud owner of a number of hooligans.  If anyone can explain to me exactly what went down with the preseason violence and Del Nido’s response, I’d greatly appreciate it.
  • We signed a 19-year-old french guy named Geoffrey Kondogbia for five seasons.  He is a 6’2″ DM who had been playing for Lens and has been playing for all of the French youth teams.  He is another advanced prospect (like Rabello) and seems like a very promising pickup.
  • Piris was jerking us around and then Roma swooped in so Monchi said, “stop wasting our time” and walked away.
  • Escude and Guarente are gone.  Sqd: Thank you for all of your immense contributions to this club and its great history!!!  Guarente: Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

Otherwise, I’m just bored.  This season really needs to start.

  1. Aaron

Rene, from what I understand the violence at Roteña started after the match when members of both fan groups were on the field. Apparently some Biris members got violent with some other fans. Del Nido, obviously embarrassed and frustrated at these asshats (really?? a PRESEASON match? REALLY.), went ahead and banned the entire Biris Norte section for the season. Then came some death threats, then came some official videos and written statements from the afición saying how terrible and idiotic the violence was. The subject hasn’t come up in the last week or so, which makes me hope it just dies quietly.

The season can’t start soon enough.

  2. wow. that’s awful. people badly hurt? it was against some second division team… come on seriously?

and maduro now has a heart condition that means he wont play?!?! i mean… i wasnt that pumped about that signing, but what is it with heart conditions in athletes these days? (im a boston celtics fan and last year the celtics had two players miss the season with heart conditions). is it cause or effect? do elite athletes put strain on their hearts in crazy ways that normal people dont? or do larger stronger hearts enable people to be better athletes? or is there something ugly going on beneath the surface (like drugs) that might actually be targeting athletes circulation systems? i have no idea. i just hope that there are more cases that are caught early, and less and less that end tragically, as sevilla has experienced first hand.

and i guess we signed a 25 year old brazilian right back who goes by cicinho. four year contract pending physical.
