Tidbits – Euro and other news

Pretty good match between two of Europe’s biggest.  Navas came on in the 65th minute and on the whole was very active and involved.  Aside from one or two crosses which could have been more precise, I thought he had a nice came, causing more trouble down the right side than David Silva had managed before getting replaced.

Also, Fabregas started and played pretty well, finishing Spain’s only goal.  But later in the match, Negredo was snubbed and instead Torres came on for some offensive spark.  Torres was HORRIFIC.  He blew about three good chances (one of them a one on one with Buffon fed in by our very own Jesus Navas).  He also managed to pick up a yellow in his limited minutes.  I’m hoping that this means that Negredo will now be ahead of him in the queue.  Depending on tactics I think there is a good chance that we see Negredo starting on Thursday against Ireland.

Right now, I’m half watching Rakitic and Croatia play Ireland.

And finally, in a small piece of financial news, apparently, because he played a whopping total of 9 minutes for Arsenal this season and Arsenal qualified for the Champions League.  Squillaci earned us a gift of 250,000 Euros.  So that’s nice.

Anyway, go Sevillistas!

Oh, and in bad news, I guess Medel got in trouble with the Chilean team and has gotten kicked off the team (am I understanding that correctly?  Could someone with better Spanish clarify that?) after he was caught out late clubbing…  That sucks.  He’s never been a trouble-maker with us…

  1. Navas definitely made a difference when he came on. Spain seemed slow with no outside presence.
As for Medel, I found this from an African newspaper:
“There was some controversy when Borghi dropped Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel and Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas from the squad after they were spotted by Chilean TV leaving a nightclub at 4am last Wednesday.
“I want to make it clear that both players were on a day off. But I had a spoken agreement. It annoys me to have to face the cameras for non-footballing occurrences. I’m a little tired of this”, Borghi said.

  2. WTF?!?!?!?!?! TORRES IS STARTING FOR SPAIN?!??!!

he put in, literally, the worst 20 minutes ive ever seen from striker playing for a top team ever… pathetic. negredo is getting screwed.

      : )

Worst of all, now Torres has converted one chance (in the first 5′, when you might notice Ireland tend to concede), so this was “the right decision”, and will now be repeated.

And again on an easy breakaway. Crap. Negredo might not play this tournament.

All joking aside, this is costing Sevilla millions.

i don’t know about that…i haven’t gotten the impression sevilla were looking to sell negredo (unless of course an enormous offer came in), and the only way a big offer would’ve come in is if negredo had a tournament that, frankly, his recent form hasn’t indicated is in him. i’d love to see him play and score all the goals spain keep almost creating, but i don’t know if it’s having that great an impact on SFC.

      • yeah, well, it would have taken him starting and putting in 4-5 goals over the tournament. not likely to happen. there are always rumors about teams hunting for him, but you’re right, his current form doesnt really suggest it was likely.

regardless, im annoyed he wasnt given a chance to play. he really needed to score against china to make a case for starting.

    Fabregas on for Torres. Crap.

    Has JAVI VARAS been sold?
