Barring any exciting news developments in Madrid or Barcelona, Sevilla will play Getafe at 8pm local time tonight. There is buzz around Marca’s office that Kaka woke up with eye crusties this morning, though, so if a press conference addressing this breaking story is called, the game may be postponed. We’ll keep you updated.
Assuming things go as planned, though, Sevilla plays a game of enormous importance this evening. Since every non-EE team above Sevilla lost this week, and all the teams below and within a game of them won, Sevilla can either fall back with the pack of teams tied on points just outside of European contention or they can move into a tie for 5th place with Levante (whom they’d play next week, with a CL-qualifying 4th place spot potentially on the line). So there’s a pretty big divide between success and failure; let’s hope we sleep in European places tonight (while obviously EXPECTING failure).

I think sevilla’s been the best team for the first 10′. Looking pretty strong and getting close to creating danger. Very weak shout for penalty just now as negredo’s shot hits a defender’s arm, but calling it would definitely have been the wrong call. Getafe making danger on their side, too…but I’m feeling fairly positive about this game right now.

Also worth nothing: trocho worked his way down the right side before sending that ball in, and the way he the ball over the top, his calmness on the ball, and his service in made me think I was watching navas over there. Fantastic work from him as well.
Gosh, we’re playing on fire right now. It’s like the team has been energized and elevated to a new level by the quality of negredo’s goal.
Also, I think scoring that goal has done something for negredo’s confidence, which had perhaps been lagging lately. He seems more active, more involved, and more willing to put himself out there than in most matches this year.
Doh! On I think their…fourth? corner, Getafe score. Sevilla had been really looking great out there, but conceding that many corners is going to get you. 1-1, 35′. (great) game on!

HT. for a game it felt like we dominated for long stretches, I sure was anxious for the whistle. Sevilla fell a bit apart after conceding on the corner, but I remain hopeful we’ll get a second…Negredo is looking nearly unstoppable.
he looked amazing on that play where he got behind the defender in the box, but the goalie parried his ball across the goal line. amazing move to get behind the defender. he looks FAST
got bailed out by the ref on that offsides that would have definitely been a goal. then bad defending of the corner leads to them actually scoring. only joined at the 28th minute or so… but we’ve been pretty shaky looking at the back. Varas got bailed out on that offsides, and also had a couple awkward uncomfortable moments…
lets just come out blazing second half and get a win.

This team have a remarkable ability to crush all our hopes and dreams over and over again.
As a consolation, man, the Sevilla that played in the first half of this game would have beaten second half Sevilla by like 10-0. We could totally kick our own asses better than Getafe has done here.
FT. Wish I’d stopped watching this game at half…I can’t think of a time I’ve ever seen a more steep dropoff from first half to second.
