If you are curious about how the mid-week match went, there’s a post-match just below here.
Meanwhile, today Sevilla hosts Hercules. There isn’t much to say–we just need to win. Varas is in goal for Palop (injury), and Romaric seems to be missing from the list, but other than that it looks like our 18 is as you’d expect. Manzano said yesterday that he’ll make 4 or 5 changes to the starting lineup to rest people, so that should be interesting.
I can never watch Sunday noon games, and so it is today. If you’re around let us know how it’s going.
And seriously, Sevilla: just win.
Its on gol…I’ll be here and watching.
i’m watching!
for the record, our lineup:
varas
caceres, fazio, escude, navarro
medel
navas, rakitic, capel
lufa, negredo
looks like rakitic is kind of playing kanouté’s in-the-hole, feed-the-strikers role. and very well so far from marca’s comments about the first half.
And apparently I’m the only one. Made it here by halftime. The goal was scored by Rakitic through a chested pass by Negredo. It was beautifully done. I went through the first half quickly…so I don’t know why Varas is in for Palop, but our lineup appears to be: Varas, Navarro, Escude, Fazio, Caceres, Capel, Medel, Rakitic, Navas, Negredo, LuFa.
beat you to it! haha.
palop has an injury and may not play against porto midweek either.
I’m actually kind of ok with it if he doesn’t.
Doh! (Hi Aaron.)
Rakitic seems to often pop up in good spots, no?
indeed! i didn’t realize he shot that ball. too bad it was going wide either way.
negredo blows by his man, winning the touchline off a sweet through pass from capel. his center is shot from the top of the 6 and blocked out. 53′
half of hercules’s back line has yellows at the moment. none on our side.
3rd straight corner coming from herc. 58′
navas cuts inside and rips a shot from the top of 18. straight at the goalie. 60′
And it was a rip…
Capel playing well…strong(er) on the ball than usual.
Feel a lot more comfortable with a second here…
Kiko on for Gomez 63′.
varas with a diving stop to push the ball around the near post off a cross/deflection. phew. we may need another goal.
We are playing to hold the lead right now…I’d rather see us push for the goal and the win.
Kanoute for LuFa 68′
kanouté in for luis fabiano. 68′
we needed a bit of a stabilizing presence.
Kanoute’s presence has reenergized Negredo…1:1 saved by the ‘keeper and then wins a corner.
kanouté puts negredo through 1v1 and his shot is blocked by calatayud’s outstretched hand. bummer!
negredo bursts through two defenders and has the ball swept away for a corner. the dude is killing them right now.
navas, our captain for today, earns a yellow for bringing down a herc player on a counter. way to get in there and give him the business, jesús! 72′
Jesus!
point blank header off a corner. straight at the keep again. one of these will find the net.
We are dominating right now and yet the way our luck has been lately I’m fearful.
eek. me too.
oooof. herc almost slip a fast one past the defense. whew. 76′
Zokora for Rakitic 80′
navas and capel are playing really well today.
Capel stronger on defense than usual in my opinion.
negredo does some magic, rodeo-clowing one of the herc defenders, then passes to navas wide who can’t find him on the returning cross. i love watching this guy. negredo for the awesome prize! 87′
Rather see DZ hold the ball there rather than look for the long ball to Navas.
agreed
three extra minutes
shouting at the screen: zokora can’t get ahold of a navas cross when we were breaking and he was all alone.
30 seconds…
For the WIN!
OVERRRR!!!! 1-0 Sevilla WINS!!!
javi varas (and the defense) with the clean sheet!
Aaron for the recap win!
haha OK! glad you made it, mike. how’s cali today?
whew. i need a cigarette.
couldnt watch but thanks for the comments guys. awesome that rakitic had a goal and that negredo was again dominant… please dont take him from us mierda.
varas looked good then? maybe the varas era has already begun… and yeah, holding a clean sheet for us right now is huge.
did they really dominate possession though? im sort of surprised by that.
anyway. looking forward to the recap.
